"Immigrants from an obscure corner of Mexico are changing heroin use in many parts of America. Farm boys from a tiny county that once depended on sugar cane have perfected an ingenious business model for selling a semi-processed form of Mexican heroin known as black tar. Using convenient delivery by car and aggressive marketing, they have moved into cities and small towns across the United States, often creating demand for heroin where there was little or none. In many of those places, authorities report increases in overdoses and deaths." - Anna Haro
If people wanna fuck themselves up, let 'em do it. But TBH this sounds like an overhyped 60 Minutes or Dateline kind of story. OMG EVERYBODY PANIC. It snows where I'm from, and I'm not talking about the weather. One of my buddies had to put "must not have tried coke" as a prereq for being his gf on his MySpace page (back when MySpace was hot). Nothing new. Oh, and cost is not an issue for addicts. Demand is pretty much inelastic. No one quits drugs because it's too expensive. - LANjackal
@LANjackal I agree with you. Why did your friend put that, did he want to be their first? ;) - Anthony Citrano

""New Yorkers have a new sex symbol. The international sign for the power button (the circle with the line thrusting out the top) will grace the wrappers of millions of New York City condoms. _____ The city's health department distributes 40 million free condoms every year. But the official design was less than stimulating. Enter the Web. An online contest for a special limited edition wrapper brought out the city's more dirty-minded designers and 15,000 people voted on the finalists. _____ The winning "power-on" logo was thought up by Luis Acosta, a designer from Queens. "I wanted to associate it with something we see in our daily lives so it wasn't taboo for people," Acosta said. Not that he found the power symbol arousing, or anything. "I like electronics but I don't like them that much." New York City's health commissioner, Dr. Thomas Farley, unveiled the design in a ceremony featuring the five finalists. ________ "When I saw [the design], I said this is pure genius," Farley told the crowd. "Everyone recognizes that symbol on their PC. People should use their own power to control their sexual health." And once you see the power-on logo in a sexual context, it does have a dirty vibe to it. That's the beautiful thing about designing a condom wrapper: It makes the most simple image seem erotic. Runner-up Russell Greenberg put a 19th century top-hat on his wrapper design. "It seemed like a simpler, more chivalrous time, so I wanted to remind people of the fact that there's good manners involved in sex," he said. And if you picture your favorite little gentleman wearing a jaunty chapeau, then so much the better. _______ Other entries in the condom contest were more suggestive. There was the image of a manhole. Another wrapper featured a subway train plunging into a dark tunnel. "I didn't want it to be in you face, you know," explained designer Gene Lambert. After all, there's nothing dirtier than the New York City subway system. Acosta's power-on design will not be on all of the city's official condoms. But with a limited release of 6 million, it will likely become one of the most recognized logos in New York. "I get to be part of 4 million people's sex lives," Acosta calculates, noting that many people will grab more than one. But not Acosta. He's married and says he doesn't use condoms anymore." - sofarsoShawn

"Alexa Meade thinks completely backwards. Most artists use acrylic paints to create portraits of people on canvas. But not Meade - she applies acrylic paints on her subjects and makes them appear to be a part of the painting! Meade is an installation artist based in the Washington, DC area. Her innovative use of paint on the three dimensional surfaces of found objects, live models, and architectural spaces has been incorporated into a series of installations that create a perceptual shift in how we experience and interpret spatial relationships. I was lucky enough to catch up with Meade and ask her about her thought process behind this creative work. Here is what she said: "I paint representational portraits directly on top of the people I am representing. The models are transformed into embodiments of the artist's interpretation of their essence. When captured on film, the living, breathing people underneath the paint disappear, overshadowed by the masks of themselves."" - You

"Setting up an email server is a difficult process involving a number of different programs, each of which needs to be properly configured. The best approach is to install and configure each individual component one by one, ensuring that each one works, and gradually build your mail server." - You
If you use Gmail as your mail server, you don't need to worry about incoming emails (Gmail takes care of that), When you use 'mail' command to send out emails, you need some sort of sendmail service (like postfix) to deliver emails to their destination servers, ssmtp is a small application that takes these outgoing emails, log in to your ISP's mail server, or other services (like Gmail's smtp server), then use that mail server to send emails. - topo
I already use gmail to check my third party emails - I am looking for a way to setup emails - not just checking them. I am hosting http://smluniverse.com on a Linux server right now and I need a way to create email addresses - I don't think that Gmail supports that! - You
